We’re approaching peak growing season for Bermuda grass here in Arizona. Having a beautiful, green lawn provides a little bit of a refreshingmowing service respite from the scorching summer heat. But, who wants to be out there taking care of that lawn when it’s so hot out? We have that answer for you! Hiring a mowing service, like J&D Lawn Service, to maintain your lawn can save you lots of time and trouble. And, you will be able to enjoy your beautiful lawn all summer long!

If hiring a mowing service sounds like just the ticket for you, you may have some questions about how often you need that mowing service to come out and maintain your lawn? The answer depends on your specific lawn and how you want it to look.

The one thing you want to make sure of is that your mowing service is not scalping your lawn. In other words, cutting your grass too short. It might be tempting to have them do so as it would seem that they would not have to come out to mow as often. It may seem like a money-saving decision. The truth, however, is that cutting your lawn too short will require increased watering to stay green. When you consider that fact and how it will affect your water bill, you are really not saving any money at all! It may even cost you more money.

Here is a chart adapted from the Arizona Municipal Water Users Association that outlines the ideal height ranges for our various Arizona grass:

Hybrid Bermuda ½ – 1 inch
Common Bermuda 1 ½ – 2 inches
Perennial rye (winter grass) 1 ½ – 2 inches

With the above as a guideline, you and your mowing service professionals can determine how often it makes sense for them to mow your lawn. During peak growing season (May – September for Bermuda), you will want your hybrid cut your Bermuda grass every two to three days if you want to keep it at ½ inch in height. But that is not your only option. If grass is kept at a height of 1”, you can usually mow about once a week. If you keep your common Bermuda grass at 1-1/2 inches in height, you will want to have it cut every week, as well.

Of course, consulting with your lawn care professional from J&D Lawn Service will help you decide what makes the best sense for you and your lawn. Our mowing service team members are experts at keeping lawns looking good during the warm summer months and all year long. They will provide you with the best advice for your particular lawn.
