seedingIs over seeding something that you should be doing to your lawn? If so, when is the right time of year? When it comes to lawn care, we use a variety of factors to help determine when seeding should be done. Give us a call at J&D Lawn Service and we’ll determine if over seeding is needed in your lawn.

If you have either planted summer grass or it’s coming out of dormancy, over seeding your lawn has many benefits. Two of the most important are:

  1. When you over seed your lawn, it can help promote thicker and lusher growth. This will also help fill in any gaps or thin areas that may have appeared in your lawn.
  2. Over seeding your lawn will also help keep the number of weeds down. As it fills in the gaps and thin areas of grass, it also removes the space weeds need to grow.

As with most living things, over time, grass growth slows down. Over seeding will help reinvigorate the grass’ growth and its overall healthy look. In Arizona, the best time to over seed is in early September, or when temperatures begin to cool. Our team can walk you through your lawn’s over seeding — A to Z — to make sure your lawn is the healthiest it can be.

Over seeding takes a lot of work but it’s something that can be worthwhile for the health of your lawn. During the process, we will mow your lawn as short as we can and remove any grass clippings. The seeds need to touch the soil so we will remove all debris with a rake. Any remaining short grass is good because it will help hold the seeds in. That will help make sure your seeding doesn’t become bird food!

As with many living things under the Arizona sun, the most important step in the over seeding process is watering. The key is to not let the seeds dry out. Programmable irrigation systems work best to make sure scheduled watering isn’t missed.

Contact our J&D Lawn Service team and we’ll get your over seeding job done right, with beautiful, healthy results. Our job is to keep your lawn looking green and gorgeous!
